An Analysis to the Effect of Frequency Offset on MC-CDMA Performance

Yanping Li · System Simulation Technology · 2006

This paper investigates the effect of frequency offset on MC-CDMA performance in downlink system. The type of interference of MC-CDMA system is presented and analyzed taking into the effect of frequency offset in Rayleigh fading channel, then signal-to-noise ratio and bit-error-rate are theoretically analyzed and numerically simulated. The different effect of frequency offset on system performance is compared when the receiver uses maximal ratio combing (MRC) and equal gain combing (EGC) detection technique respectively. It is shown that MC-CDMA system can allow a maximal frequency offset of 10 percent, otherwise the BER performance will degrade severely, and the degree of degradation depends on not only the degree of frequency offset, but also the number of users. At the same time, overall performance of the system employed EGC is better than the system employed MRC, and it is more sensitive to frequency offset.
