MWEs:A review of description,recognition and application

There has been in the Natural Language Processing (NLP) community a growing awareness of the problems that multiword expressions (MWEs) pose due to the stable meanings of MWEs.Developments in areas such as information retrieval,machine translation,and question answering have proved the importance of MWEs.But due to MWEs' idiosyncratic nature it is still difficult to describe them formally.The current studies mostly focus on the description,recognition and dictionary compilation and some research results are tested in real applications.This paper discusses the description and recognition of MWEs for the potential benefit to the future compilation of MWE dictionaries.
