Analysis of the Performance of TCP and Its Extension Protocol for Space Communication

The paper studies TCP and its extension protocol employed in space communication environments.Space Communications Protocol Standards-Transport Protocol(SCPS-TP),a set of extensions to TCP,addresses pro-blems such as exhibit loss caused by data corruption and link outage in addition to congestion-related loss, communication channel data rates being severely limited and highly asymmetric.Based on OPNET software,CCSDS process-level modules are developed. Two kinds of reliable transport mechanisms including TCP and SCPS-TP are configured and protocol emulation and performance analysis are performed. The results indicate that the SCPS-TP extensions yield significant improvements in throughput over unmodified TCP on error-prone links.
