The Effect of Text Structure on Reader's Information-Keeping

Jin Zhang · Yingyong xinlixue · 2000

This paper describes two experiments designed to examine the effect of text structure on reader's information keeping. The first experiment explored the relationship between text structure organization and reader's information keeping. It was indicated that a well organized structure of the text could facilitate reader's comprehension of the text and therefore resulted in better performance of information keeping. In the second experiment, the kind of information kept was further examined. It seemed that well structured text helped reader keep key information rather than fragmentary information.
