Hongyan Yan · Chinese Journal of Ergonomics · 2012
To optimize keyboard interface design of touch screen handsets, usability test and questionnaire were employed to analyze the usability performance and satisfaction of four popular input methods in the SMS tasks. We found that:a) T9-like keypad was better to use in typing Chinese and figures, while QWERTY keypad was more suitable for English.b) The convenience and accessibility of input mode switch were the two critical factors influencing the usability and user satisfaction of input methods. The future input interface should follow the one touch to switch the input mode principle, and for different input information present the optimal input interface(Chinese-T9,English-QWERTY).
