Collocaton refers to habitual co-occurrence of lexical items with syntagmatic relations. The term Collogation is used to refer to recurrent combination of lexis and grammar above collocation. The study of collocaton and collogation should not be confined to phrase and clause level and should extend to discourse level. The study reported in this paper investigates how particular collocation and colligation are associated with discourse functions of unspecific anaphoric nouns with discourse management functions.Corpus-based research reveals between written and spoken discourse there are distinctive differences in terms of collocation, colligation, and favored premodifiers in each pattern.
