Through 1:250 000 regional geological surveys of the Saga County, Sangsang District and Gyirong County sheets, some new advances have been made in stratigraphy, paleontology, regional structure and Quaternary geology. For example, it has been ascertained that the Precambrian to Jurassic Jilonggou stratigraphic section is another very important section that may completely correlate with the classical Nyalam-Zham section; the characteristics of the zonation of the Yarlung Zangbo suture zone have been further determined; two utterly different ophiolitic melange belts that formed in the north and south in different periods have been distinguished; and several sites of the ancient human species have been found in Zhabdun, Qionggu and other places.
