An Advanced Quadtree Method for Fractal Image Coding

Hongwei Chen · 2004

The traditional quadtree method for fractal image coding does not consider the contents of an image block but separate directly it into regular square blocks. Therefore, there is a contradiction that the bigger blocks affect the effect of reconstructed image, the smaller blocks decrease compression ratio and increase computation time.In this paper, an advanced quadtree method for fractal image coding is presented, the method can tackle above-mentioned contradiction and obtain higher compression ratio while the quality of reconstructed image is the same.
