Applied Eye-link II eye tracker system, the present study investigate the visual attention tactic of orienteers, discuss the differences of eye-movement patterns between 8 expert orienteers and 8 novice orienteers when orienteer observing two kinds of orienteering maps. The conclusions are as follows:Firstly,it is demonstrated that the load of working memory effects orienteers' visual attention process ability. In the situation of task constraint and time pressure, two groups of subjects have significant difference characteristics on fixation time, fixation frequency, saccade, point of fixation, trajectory of fixation.Secondly, expert orienteer shows more reasonable and more effective visual search strategy. It is showed that experts attend first to the topographic symbol around the control and the characteristic of controls in digital sequence to identify an approach to it that simplified navigation. In contrast, novices attend firs to the position of every control, the start triangle, and ignore the topographic symbol around the control and the importance of prioritizing the planning of the navigation path to the control.Thirdly,long-term physical exercise training on orienteering may have beneficial effects on competitors' visual attention strategy. It is showed that expert orienteer's visual attention strategy consists of goal-directed attention mechanism and stimulus-driven mechanism, which interact effectively on each other.
