Motion estimation is the most important step in video compression. By the fundamental theory of Hexagon-Based Search, this paper introduces an efficient data flow pattern, and introduces a parallel and pipeline hardware architecture for the integer pixel motion estimation, which reduces data memory accesses greatly. The circuit can work steadily at 100MHz,Simulation results show that the average number of cycles required to make a block matching for different test sequence is 140,which fulfills the requirement of real-time HDTV encoding.
