Single Radio Based Multi-channel Method for Wireless Mesh Networks

Fangkai Cai · Telecommunication Engineering · 2009

Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a new distributed broadband access network.Compared with the typical mobile Ad Hoc network,it is with less mobility, usually not powered by the battery and wider bandwidth demand. Therefore, the traditional mobile Ad Hoc architecture with single channel is no longer meeting the demand of WMN users. In order to provide a wider bandwidth,multi-channel becomes more and more necessary.Firstly, the typical structures and characteristics of WMN,and several relevant multi-channel technologies are introduced. Then a single radio based multi-channel method for wireless mesh networks is proposed. Nodes belong to different gateways use various common channels to communicate with each other. And in this way,the interference between those two subnets is eliminated significantly. Extensive simulation results show that the network throughput of the proposed method is double compared with that of single-radio and single-channel method.
