In the field of signal processing,it is very important to separate the noise from the available signal. The seismic data for finding mines is usually contaminated by the noise generated by the working machines around the detectors collecting the seismic signal in old diggings. The conventional filtering method proves inadequate in removing the strong machine noise from the seismic signal. With the development of computer and the signal processing, the adaptive noise cancellation has been widely used in some fields. After mastering the principles of this method and analyzing the relation and difference between the machine noise and the seismic data,an adaptive noise cancellation technique is studied to remove the machine noise. Aiming at the shortcoming of the conventional NLMS-based technique, this paper presents a new algorithm to remove the strong machine noise background and simulate it by using MATLAB. The results of simulation show that adaptive noise cancellation technique has good effect on reducing the machine noise with little distortion of seismic signal.
