Study on Fast Motion Estimation for H.264

Based on the study on EPZS and UMHexagonS algorithms,an improved algorithm is proposed,which reduce the motion estimation time efficiently with the idea of multi-layer motion search in UMHexagonS and changed DS model.FS,EPZS,UMHexagonS and the improved algorithms are used to encode three typical video sequences.The experimental results show that the motion estimation time with the improved algorithms is 30%~40% of FS,70%~90% of EPZS,85%~95% of UMHexagonS while keeping similar visual quality.
