A USE SCENARIO DRIVEN APPROACH TO AUTOMATIC GENERATION OF SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS MODELS

A use scenario represents a part of software requiretnents from the viewpoint of a specific type of users to achieve a speclflc computatlon purpose under a specific operation condition. The scenario driven approach to requirements engineering is characterized by systematically use of scenarios in requirements lnformation acquisition, model constructlon, and consistency and completeness check.Hence, the process of requirements analysis is guided and drlven by scenario identification, description, analysis, and synthesis. In comparison with directly describing and analysing the whole system, it is relatively easier and simpler to describe and analyse a scenario. However, there are two unsolved problems. The flrst ls how to manage the consistency between scenarios. The second is how to obtain the model of the whole system from the descriptions of scenarios. The complexity and the large number of scenarios in real software systems demand automated tools to support coping with these problems. Based on the structured analysis method, this paper extends the data flow diagram and state transition diagram to describe use scenarios in a multiple view approach. The consistency and completeness constraints between scenarios and system models are discussed and formally defined. Algorithms for automatically checking consistency and completeness and automatically synthesising system models from scenarios are proposed. An automated requirements analysis support tool NDRASS2.0 that implements these functions is presented.
