Mini-text and Its Application in Foreign Language Teaching

Liang Mao-cheng · 2009

The convergence of the theory of Data-Driven Learning(DDL) and the constructivist approach to learning with foreign language teaching and learning has made the use of language corpora in foreign language teaching a modern fashion. However, due to the large sizes of corpora, the diversity of the language in corpora,as well as the complicated nature of the query syntax of corpus concordancing, the direct use of large corpora in foreign language teaching has been less widespread than it can potentially be.This paper proposes that mini-texts could be created and used to enhance the convienience and the efficiency of the use of language corpora in foreign language teaching.Such mini-texts,as introduced in the paper, can greatly reduce the pressure on the part of the teacher in class and effectively avoid the intensive training otherwise needed on the part of the students.
