APPLICATION OF ACOUSTIC PROFILING SYSTEM ON ACTIVE FAULT INVESTIGATION IN WATER AREAS

Yonglin Huang · Journal of Disaster Prevention and Reduction · 2010

The active fault investigations have been done in the different water areas with the acoustic profiling system, which consists of Chirp Ⅲ acoustic profiling system and Boomer acoustic profiling system. The strata profiles are adopted to make analyses on the existence of active fault in the investigation water areas, such as river, lake and sea.According to the comparison of the results obtained from the different investigations,it shows that this acoustic profiling system is useful to explore the sedimentary texture and faults activity of Late Quaternary System, and to investigate the potential geologic hazards.Furthermore, the effectiveness of the acoustic profiling system is related to the water depth and properties of soils, and it’ s more effective to apply in the clay and silt soil areas with the water depth more than 4m.
