It is increasingly accepted that the next generation fixed and mobile telephony architecture will be based on IP.The next-generation network must be a programmable IP-based network in some sense. This in turn requires that next-generation network provide powerful, convenient, and well-defined APIs for application development. This paper presents the API architecture of next generation network, then describes how intelligence has evolved in the system components. In conclusion,we present the hierarchical structure and functional structure of next generation network.
