Blind channel estimation for vertical layered space-time codes

Aigang Feng · Journal of China Institute of Communications · 2003

Vertical layered spacetime codes assumed that training symbols are available at the receiver for channel estimation. Increasing the number of antennas increases the required training interval and reduces the available time in which data may be transmitted before the fading coefficients change. In this paper, by combining the subspace method with layered space-time codes, we propose a vertical layered space-time code and accomplish the channel estimation without the training symbols. From Monte Carlo simulations, we show that under the condition of coherence time in the current communication environment, the performance of symbol detection with our estimated channel approaches that with perfect knowledge of the channel.
