In IGRS-based media server software, media transcoding service performs the on-the-fly format transcoding from one media format to another so that media player is able to play the unsupported-format content. To implement an extensible and configurable scheme of external media transcoding service, the design enables media server to distribute different media transcoding tasks to the proper transcoding program according to the settings of transcoding configure file.
