Remote high performance computing environment for low reliability networks

Dongsheng Wang · Journal of Tsinghua University(Science and Technology) · 2002

The RiCE project (remote high performance computing environment) seeks to establish a remote computing environment based on a high performance parallel computer. RiCE effectively partitions the tasks of the local and remote machine using various transfer mechanisms, including incremental updates, compressed file transfer, checkpointing and recovery. The system also uses a load balance tool and security mechanisms, such as user authorization and logging. Therefore, RiCE provides a remote system that can be used with the low bandwidth and poor reliability of Chinese networks.
