Introduction to Haploid Breeding Technique in Maize

Maize haploid breeding technology is a rapid new way to get inbred lines.A distinctive feature of the technology is that the breeding time to select inbred lines could be greatly shortened.Using conventional breeding methods to breeding inbred lines generally have to go through 6～7 generations lasting about 3～4 years,while haploid technology need only two generations about one year time to get the inbred lines.The application of the technology in our country is not wide,and there are many problems that still need to be studied.We briefly introduced the procedures of maize haploid breeding technology from three aspects,including basic selections of material preparation and induction,selection and doubling of the haploid,and the management and test of the DH lines.Haploid breeding technology trend in future development was discussed in this paper.
