A New Method of Motion Estimation and Compensation

Based on introducing traditional motion estimation and compensation methods, aiming at DWT's characters and applications in image compression, we mainly introduce a new effective motion estimation and compensation methods——overlapped multi-resolution motion compression technique(OMRMC). This method combines the overlapped block motion compensation(OBMC) which is used in H.263 and MPEG-4 and the multi-resolution motion estimation(MRME) technique adapting to wavelet domain. This method not only reduces the calculation's complexity but also reduces the blocky artifacts in the predicted frames.
