Multiple description coding scheme based on redundant Ridgelet transform

A new multiple description coding scheme is proposed.This scheme combines the JPEG standard and the redun-dant Ridgelet transform,and gets a good performance both on image compression and transmission robustness.The image is partitioned into many blocks and every block is applied on DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) and quantification.Basing on the frequency the DCT coefficients in blocks are regrouped,and they are applied the redundant Ridgelet transform in succes-sion.Depending on the energy property of the coefficients in ridgelet domain the descriptions are generated.The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can reconstruct the image effectively even only one of the descriptions is re-ceived,and it has high performance at error-resilient in image transmission.
