My Perspectives on Valence Study

Valence is a comprehensive notion which takes syntax as the core and which incorporates ingredients of semantics and pragmatics. The research on valence grammar should take the formation process of the valence structure of a given sentence as the ultimate objective. We should take not only verbs but also other parts of speech as the contents of valence study. The prepositional phrase occupies a quite important position in the valence structure of a given sentence; not only that, prepositional valence should top the priority list when it comes to studying the dynamic development of valence. That issue can be better approached only when put in the formation process of the valence system of a sentence.
