A New Third-order Frequency Domain Intra Prediction Algorithm

Intra prediction has been adopted in some video coding standards such as H.263+, MPEG-4 and H.264. By allowing the DC/AC coefficients of the corresponding block to be predicted from neighboring blocks, either to the left or above the current block, it can improve coding efficiency effectively. A new intra prediction algorithm is proposed in this paper, which select optimal DC prediction direction of the block to be encoded, intra AC prediction is made from vertical, horizontal and diagonal coefficients. Experimental results show that the new intra prediction algorithm has better image quality as well as reducing the computation complexity.hird orderF
