Analysis on the Falls and its Risk Factors in the Elderly People in Community

Objective To investigate the situation of falls and its risk factors in the elderly in community.Methods With cluster random sampling,the elderly people aged 60 yrs and over in 3 440 families were selected and the falling events happened during Jan 1 to Dec 31 of 2007 were investigated.Results The falling incidence rate was 2.54% in 1 967 investigated subjects,and 1.68% in male and 3.35% in female.There was about 61.54% of fallings occurred at home.The main reasons for 57.69% fallings were attributed to wet floor and uneven ground,etc.The main risk factors for the elderly fallings included the age,disequilibrium,instability of gait,poor health condition,chronic diseases and so on.Conclusion The consequence of fallings has already influenced the good health and quality life of the aged.Improving indoor environment of the elderly,intensifying education of knowledge about precaution of falls in elderly and preventing the occurrence of falling in the elderly can improve quality life of the aged.
