Geological surveys and land resources statistics have played an important function with respect to: information, consultancy, and inspection issues. The paper introduces best practices for the filling out of reporting forms, and it discusses some measures for improving the statistical management of grass-roots units, based on the following aspects: strengthening the basic construction of statistics; reforming and perfecting statistical indicator systems and systems of statistical report forms; tightening up the automated system of statistical information gathering; and promoting the quality of professional statistical workers.
