The change of hygroscopicity and other properties of heating-treated straw

Xiaoya Li · Journal of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University · 2016

In order to increase the stability of composite materials made from straw by reducing the hydroxide radical content of straw, grinded straw was heated and maintained at 150,180,200,250 ℃ and the hygroscopicity of straw was measured at the 1st,3nd,5th hour after being heated. Subsequently, scanning electron microscope( SEM),X-Ray diffraction( XRD) and Fourier translation infrared spectrum( FT-IR) were used to test the property of heat-treated straw when the hygroscopicity remained unchanged. Results showed that hygroscopicity of straw dropped significantly after being heated. Microstructure, crystallinity and chemical structure of straw almost remained the same when heated under 200 ℃. When the heating temperature was above 250 ℃,straw became fractured,over-dehydrated and decreased crystallinity, which posed adverse effect on straw utilization. To summarize, treatment at 200 ℃ for 3 h was the optimum condition.
