The Current Application Situation of Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) in Transportation

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a kind of wireless, noncontact automatic identification technology. It is communicated noncontactly by radio frequency to exchange data and identify objects. RFID has many successful applications in foreign countries, but it has not been used much in China. In this paper, the essential principle, character and frequency of RFID is introduced; and it is compared to barcode and magnetic card, then some applications of RFID such as Electronic Toll Collection System (ETCS) and Advanced Travel Information System(ATIS) are analyzed; Finally the future of RFID application is forecast.
