An inter-cell interference coordination scheme with STBC in distributed cellular architecture

Jianwu Zhang · Journal of Circuits and Systems · 2010

To mitigate inter-cell interference in distributed cellular architecture, an inter-cell interference coordination scheme with space time block coding (STBC) is proposed. On one hand, the available frequency resources of one cell are restricted by interference coordination which improves signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) and cell edge users’ data rates of the neighbor cell in these resources. On the other hand, based on the benefit of multiple antennas in distributed antenna systems, diversity gain is obtained to further improve cell edge users’ performance. However, a user served by multi-antenna will cause extra interference for other users. Hence, STBC is adopted only when the received signal strength of the user from two cells are relevantly equal. Otherwise, the cell with the highest received signal strength is selected to provide service for the user. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves cell throughput significantly, especially cell edge users’ performance.
