On Dynamic Changes in Male and Female Phraseology in Japan——Focus on Literary Works
Cao Chun-ling · Hainan Daxue xuebao · 2011
This paper studies empirically 60 literary works written by young Japanese writers from 1950 to 2003,and analyzes the status quo of five Japanese end particles,i.e.,よ、ね、の、わ、ゼロ,highly frequently used by males and females. The study result confirms that authentic dynamic changes have occurred in male and female phraseology in Japan over the postwar 60 years, and the cause of which lies in the fact that since the war Japanese females have been engaged in various social works and inclined to be neutral in their conversation phraseology, which, thereby, narrowed the gender differences in the use of language between males and females.
