The Comparative Study of Image Coding Based on DCT and Wavelet Transform

The algorithms of image and video coding based on Discrete Cosine Transform(DCT) and Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT) are briefly discussed firstly.And then the conclusions are made by the comparisons between DCT and DWT.To the still image,wavelet coding is better than DCT at compression ratio and coding quality.The peak signal to noise ratio is improved by 1dB.But to video coding,DWT is not much better than DCT.
