Authenticity in language testing has always been a controversial concept. Although many language teachers and test researchers have recognized its importance, there is disagreement about what constitutes authenticity and about the level of authenticity that can be realistically achieved in language tests. The theories include the real life approach, Bachmans bidimensional analysis and SpenceBrowns multidimentional view. A more comprehensive framework and more empirical researches are needed before the problem of authenticity can be solved.
