Cusp Detection Method by Wavelets and Application in Picking First Arrivals

This paper introduces a statistical detection of cusp in signals covered by noise by wavelets.The main idea is to describe precisely the local singularities of wavelets transform because of its special characteristics;furthermore,by introducing the idea of statistics and setting a threshold value, the influence produced by stationary noise can be suppressed.So the locations of each cusp can be detected by the local maxima of the wavelet transform modulus.It can be seen that this method is effective through the simulated experiment of seismic signals.
