A STUDY ON FINITE WORD LENGTH CHARACTERISTICS OF Z-TRANSFORM AND Δ-TRANSFORM

Ao J, Jian Zhang · Acta Automatica Sinica · 1992

The finite word length of digital computers has great influence on the implementation of control software. This paper introduces the Δ-transform and δ-operator, and compares them with the commonly used Z-transform and q-operator. It is shown that Δ-transform is more accurate for coefficient representation and has better performance for round off noise. In addition, Δ-transform has the advantage of eleminating the limite cycles caused by the finite word length nonlinearity.
