Lightning overvoltage is a kind of impulse voltage in electric power system with a very short duration.Lightning stroke can cause extremely high voltage thus to form a great threat to electric power system insulation,has always been an important factor for electric power system accidents.Lightning arrester is a main method for lightning protection,but is not always successful.Lightning stroke has caused damage to electric equipments in Xiangyuan substation,Changzhi electric power system,for at the exact time of accident the lightning arrester did not act.The essay makes a brief analysis of the accident.
