An Algorithm for Automated Labeling and Checking Vector-Based Contour Maps
Yong Wang · Chinese Journal of Computers · 2002
Contour is one of most important elements in traditional maps and modern geographical information systems, which is often used to represent the roughness of various terrains. Automated contour labeling is a useful tool for automatic map input and generating DEM. In this paper, the author proposes a new algorithm to label and check the elevation of vector based contours. The key of the algorithm is to create an enclosure tree data structure for contour map and then transform the enclosure tree to contour free tree in such a way that the elevation of contours is labeled and checked.
