Analysis of the Conversational Implicature of Elliptic Utterances in Spoken Chinese from the Perspective of Cooperative Principle

Much discussion has involved in Chinese elliptic utterances from different perspectives, but the data quoted are mostly from written works, and the analysis is grammatical-component-oriented. This paper focuses on the analysis of pragmatic factors of the Chinese elliptic utterances of spoken style from the perspective of cooperative principle, and thus demonstrates that some elliptic utterances in spoken Chinese, with deep conversational implicature, are both optimally chosen and communicatively economical.
