A reservation-based MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks

Yang Ji · Information technology newsletter · 2007

The requirement of wireless sensor networks, such as energy efficiency and low delay, posed a great challenge for MAC protocol design.Recently many cluster-based MAC protocols are proposed,in order to reduce collision taking TDMA scheme to manage the intra-cluster communication. This paper proposed a cluster similar reservation-based MAC(R-MAC).When the contention nodes are fewer, the random con-tention way is used to reserve the data transfer. On the contrary, when the contention nodes are many, the slot contention way is used. The analysis shows that R-MAC gets better performance in terms of energy consumption and delay.
