Inverse distance weighted interpolation based adaptive image histogram equalization algorithm

A new adaptive histogram equalization method is presented for image contrast enhancement. The inverse distance weighted interpolation is used to replace the bilinear interpolation operation in the non-overlapped sub-block histogram equalization method. The weighted value of the inverse distance weighted interpolation is used to describe the dependency between pixels in the image. Then the local contrast can be easily adjusted by changing the weighted exponent. In addition, the smoothing effect can be controlled through setting the smoothing parameter. The feasibility of this method is validated by experiments on remote sensing images.
