Use Back-pressure to Improve TCP Performance over Asymmetric Links
Hui Tian · 2001
In this paper, we study a scheme for improving the performance of TCP traffic over asymmetric links. The sharing of a common buffer by data segments and acknowledgments in such an environment produces the effect of lack compression, often causing dramatic reduction in through put. The approach makes the use of a connection level back pressure mechanism to limit the maximum amount of data buffered in the outgoing queue of the source. This approach is shown to minimize the queueing delay for acks and improve TCP performance.
