A New Adaptive Median Filter

An improved median filter was introduced to suppress impulsive noise.The proposed solution was a class of adaptive center-weighted median filter.By the edge membership,the proposed filter adaptively determines the central weight to make sure that it could perform different amount of smoothing for noisy images with different image areas,namely it could perform slight smoothing for edge areas and more smoothing for non-edge areas.The experimental results show that the proposed solution significantly out performs the standard median filter(SMF)and the central weighted median filter(CWMF).
