Nodes that are close to sink will die earlier, because of transmitting huge amounts of packets in wireless sensor networks with the same radio range of each node. According to the relative position of sensor node with sink and the characteristics of traffic, a novel node placement and radio range adjustment strategies, based on uneven belt ring model was proposed. The simulation result indicates that our approach is efficient in prolonging the lifetime of both the node nearest to sink and the whole network.
