A Flow-Control Scheme in Multi-Dimensional Switching Networks

G Iang · Microcomputer Information · 2008

Multi-dimensional switching network is one of the key techniques in designing scalable packet switches/routers with high capacity. Based on such network topology,an efficient flow-control scheme has been proposed in this paper, using the techniques of wormhole routing and virtual channel. This scheme could effectively achieve packet-level and flit-level flow-control in the network, improving switching performance. Relations between the buffer length of a node and the network performance have been analyzed and the simulation results have been given. The flow-control process in both single node and whole network with limited buffer resource is described in details, along with the conditions of network blocking.
