Wanyi Gu · Optical Communication Technology · 2007
at first, the meaning of implementing multicast in GPON is discussed, and on the basics of analyzing and comparing of the present second layer multicast protocol,it is proposed to implement multicast in GPON using IGMP SNOOPING protocol. At the same time,a novel implementation scheme is proposed in conjunction with the characteristic of the GPON. The new scheme describes the processing to IP multicast service data by OLT and ONU,and the processing of the IGMP frame of the users' terminal devices entering or leaving the multicast group. At last, the application of the multicast technology based on IPTV service in GPON and the advantages of such application are described in detail.
