Design of IED for Online Monitoring on MOA in Intelligent Substation

Fang Shou-Xian · Guangdong Electric Power · 2012

A kind of intelligent electronic devices(IED) for online monitoring on metal oxide arrester(MOA) in intelligent substation is designed for calculation and diagnosis on total current, capacitive current, resistive current, lightning strikes, temperature and humidity, implementing online monitoring on insulation and operation status of MOA altogether with online monitoring terminal and sending monitored result to main IED as required. The design adopts a combined structure of advanced reduced instruction set computer microprocessor(ARM) and digital signal processor(DSP) for the purpose of implementing fast data analysis and treatment as well as complexity management;it employs IEC 61850 as communication protocols among IED for online monitoring on MOA in intelligent substation and IED,IED and integrated information platform so as to ensure interoperability of the same devices from different manufacturers;it uses IRIG-B code to synchronize devices to improve online monitoring accuracy. The design is brought into use in Tangshan Hongqiao Substation and it can achieve the expected goals.
