Study and Improvement of MAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Network

Various functions of Medium Access Control(MAC)protocol,for wireless sensor network,and of IEEE802.11 and IEEE802.15.4 MAC protocols are studied and analyzed,and IEEE802.15.4 MAC protocol is improved with dormancy mechanisms of low duty cycle in Sensor MAC(S-MAC) protocol.The properties and performances of these protocols are compared.And these protocols are also simulated with NS-2 tool,simulation results show that the improved MAC protocol could significantly reducing the power consumption,and is more suitable for low-power sensor network.
