A method for urban seismic ground motion zonation

Yang Zhaohui · World Earthquake Engineering · 2011

Started with site classification,a new method for urban seismic parameter, zonation is proposed.First the bore-hole data are processed with software Surfer and ArcGis,then 3D underground model which contains the information of soil layer thickness, wave speed distribution and site classification is established,in addition, the site is divided into subareas and grids.Afterwards, several representative tested holes in each subarea are selected for conducting the earthquake response analysis of one-dimensional soil layer, the results can be regarded as earthquake response in the corresponding subarea, and according to the information of all discrete points(grid points),the result of ground surface seismic response can be gained, and then the seismic parameter zonation and seismic acceleration isolines of the whole area can be got. This method can be used to getting seismic activity distribution under different intensity earthquake waves, the results can be used to urban seismic damage prediction, especially to swift damage evaluation after earthquakes.
