Message Memory Network Interface Design in Network Parallel Computing
Jian Feng Wu · Chinese Journal of Computers · 2000
In this paper, some typical parallel applications are analyzed qualitatively. A fact is revealed that the transferred data seldom come from the Stack, but mainly from the Heap in message passing. R is used to represent the message passing irrelevant factor, which is defined as the ratio of the messages from heap data and the whole messages. The tracing results of a pack of typical parallel applications in a practical network parallel computing environment show that the value of R is close to 1, which confirms the analysis. Considering the technical development in memory industry, the architecture setting the message memory in the network interface of NPC is proposed in this paper. In this architecture, a node of NPC can access the message memory in other nodes. The experiment result verifies that the overhead of message passing can be reduced efficiently in the NPC with message memory in its network interface.
