Approach for learning OWL ontologies from relational databases

This paper presents a semi-automatic approach for learning OWL ontologies from relational database.Based on the formal definitions of relational database schema and OWL ontology,this approach follows a set of universal mapping methods and rules from a relational database schema to an OWL ontology,and implements a prototype tool OntoLearner based on Java 2 platform.A typical case study with OntoLearner validated the effectiveness of the proposed learning approach.
